The children were incredibly excited about this and asked amazingly insightful questions. They showed a great level of interest in the topic and were fascinated by the answers. After the event, William wrote an article for the Letchworth District Astronomical Society. Here is an excerpt from that article:

• What does the Astronomer Royal do?

• Has she met the King?

• What is a black hole?

• How big is a black hole?

• What is a Gravastar and how are they made?

The Astronomer Royal was on the big screen at the front on the classroom. My class sat on the class room chairs and the other year 4 class sat on the carpet. My friends loved every bit of it and they told their parents all about it. I really enjoyed the session and it inspired me a lot to become an astronomer, scientist or engineer when I grow up.

Our first event of the day was a workshop entitled 'The Wonder Show' where we were treated to three live Science experiments which involved a few people from the audience getting involved.

Next, we ventured down to the museum's space exhibit which contained some truly breathtaking displays. We saw real space rockets, plenty of informative and interactive exhibits and even a floating ball that was on a constant loop of change between all the planets in our solar system. 

After lunch came the event the children were particularly excited about... the Wonderlab. Seemingly endless activities for the children to take part in based around various scientific topics including Forces, Sound and Electricity. 

There were lots of tired sleepy faces on the coach journey home but plenty of smiles and shared positive experiences.

Today, our hall was turned into a makeshift gurdwara where we took part in all the common practises that you would normally expect to see in a gurdwara. The children even got a chance to sample some yummy food that had been prepared for this event. 

Year 4 were inspired to use this story as a basis for putting together their own legend stories. We began by designing a lead character that would be the centre point for our stories. After this, we composed an introduction before moving on to the various paragraphs and chapters that would become our finished stories. The children's focus points included the use of adverbials to expand their writing as well as exploring new and exciting vocabulary to add mystery and intrigue to their work.

The finished pieces of work were wonderful to read and the children were very proud, as they should be!
