Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics!

On Thursday 30th January, our Year 5 and 6 team took part in the North Herts School Sport Partnership Sportshall Athletics competition at Hitchin Boys' School.
The squad were part of the 47 strong group of athletes that have been taking part in lunchtime sportshall athletics club this term and made up a girls and a boys team of athletes to compete on behalf of William Ransom.
This is always a fun event. All the field events go on in one half of the hall whilst the track events go on one by one down the middle, then the teams swap over. Children are allowed to complete in up to 2 track and 2 field events each and all are looking to earn points for their team which then get tallied at the end. At any one time, you have no idea how your school is getting on as all the events are happening simultaneously - organised, thrilling chaos!
All our athletes put in an immense effort! Myself and Mr Plunkett were so impressed with the skill, attitudes and support towards their teammates showed by every single one of the team. It made us, as always, incredibly proud to have such brilliant children here at William Ransom.
All the children's hard work this term paid off. The girls (made up of all but two Year 5s!) finished in a highly commendable 4th and the boys finished in a brilliant 2nd place, which means they progress to the North Herts finals next month!
A huge well done to all 19 of these brilliant children. Here's to the final, watch this space...
