Just Talk Week 2026: Belonging, Bright Colours and Bright Sun!

What a wonderful week it has been at William Ransom School as we celebrated Just Talk Week 2026! This year, our focus was on the important theme of Belonging. Throughout the week, children across the school took part in thoughtful discussions, creative activities and special sessions designed to help them understand and recognise their place within our school community. Children reflected on kindness, inclusion and how we can help one another feel safe, valued and heard. These conversations were a lovely reminder that wellbeing is not just something we talk about during one week of the year, but something woven through everyday school life. With Miss Swinburne, all classes reflected on a book about belonging and created some artwork:

We were pleased that members of the Mental Health Team were able to visit a few classes during the week, giving children the opportunity to talk about emotions and strategies that can support their wellbeing.

There were also some fantastic creative and active sessions across the week. Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed cookery sessions, making scones with Mrs Kitchen and Mrs Halliwell. A huge thank you to them both for giving the children such a memorable hands-on experience. The children really enjoyed taking their scones home along with the recipe!

Several year groups also took part in upbeat dance sessions led by Mrs Maranian, which brought plenty of energy, movement and smiles to the hall. Thank you to Mrs Maranian for sharing her enthusiasm and making these sessions so enjoyable!

A special thank you also goes to Mrs Hibbs for leading the music sessions for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, giving the children another creative way to explore kindness, caring and togetherness.

As part of the week, some year groups took part in financial education workshops, helping children think about money, choices and decision-making. Due to the heat, some of these sessions are being rescheduled, and we look forward to Year 3 classes having the opportunity to take part soon.

Year 5 and Mrs Thorn took part in some exciting Taskmaster-style activities. Check them out in action!

Unfortunately, the extremely hot weather meant that our planned football sessions and bouncy castle activities had to be cancelled. While this was disappointing for the children, keeping everyone safe and well was the most important decision. The children showed great understanding and still embraced the spirit of the week beautifully.

On Friday, the school was filled with colour for our bright dress-down day. Children wore rainbow colours to celebrate the idea that we are all different, but together we make something bright and special. It was a lovely way to end a week!

Thank you to all the staff and visitors who helped make Just Talk Week possible, and to our families for supporting the conversations at home. It has been a week full of reflection, creativity and connection, and a reminder that at William Ransom, everyone belongs.
