Pancake Day Race

On a beautiful sunny Tuesday, we held our annual pancake race with one boy and one girl from each House from Year 3 to 6 competing in a relay style race around the playground.  The whole school came out to cheer on their team and it was a close run race, as you will be able to read from Luke’s report below:

'This amazing event was incredibly intense right up to the end with every single team having their turn in first place.   It was so heart pounding because Saturn had a great start, powering ahead of everyone whilst all the time, other teams were close behind. With Neptune and Mars brushing the tail of Saturn, the race proceeded with a new team at the front: Mars!

At this point in the race, everyone was head on head and it could have been anyone’s race.  As Jupiter carried on, the Year 4 started.  Year 4 were clearly well prepared for the race.  By the end of the girls’ round, there were three teams less than fifty metres apart – Saturn, Neptune and Jupiter.

As Year 4 became Year 5, the crowd screamed their cheers of delight.  Neptune was first now and Mars was definitely making some progress.

Finally, the last Year came on. Year 6. This was the decider! The team of Neptune had built a fabulous foundation and so had all the other teams.  The table was currently Neptune winning, Saturn in second, Mars third and Jupiter fourth.

As the final group (Year 6 boys) crossed the finish line, nothing changed.  Although Neptune won and Jupiter came fourth.  Jupiter did the best by having the most pancake in their pan at the end.'

A huge thank you to Mrs Mitchell for cooking our lovely pancakes which stood up to the test of being raced and flipped at speed!
