Year 1 had a wonderful visit to Shuttleworth, where we explored amazing aeroplanes and discovered how people first learned to fly. The children saw real vintage planes up close and talked about how flight has changed over time. We learned about some of the early pioneers of aviation who experimented with new ideas to get aircraft into the sky. It was exciting to imagine what it must have been like when flying was first invented!
As the leaves begin to change colour and the crisp autumn air settles in, Hazel has already impressed all the adults by settling brilliantly into their new class.
In English, they kicked off the term with the delightful story, "I Want My Hat Back! ” by Jon Klassen. The children thoroughly enjoyed the narrative, and took their creativity a step further by engaging in some lively role-play. Following our discussions, the pupils were eager to create their own sequels, leading to the imaginative title "I Want My Friend Back." We also found a dragon in our classroom cupboard, when reading "Dragon Post." We wrote some instructions on how to douse it with water if it tries to breathe fire! We have even been retelling stories through the power of rap!
Year 1 have been making the most of the lovely weather and taking their learning outside.

Holly Class presented their version of The Christmas Pine this week and what a fantastic show it was. Well done to everyone involved in the whole Key Stage 1 performance - loud voices, lovely singing and great dancing too!
Year One went back in time to 1666 to experience the Great Fire of London!
Year One have been hard at work creating their own mini fire engine, as part of their learning in Design and Technology.
Year One had a fantastic Festival of Languages day. They started in the hall, visiting Ireland and learning some Irish dancing. Thank you to Mrs Hunter!
